This Patek Philippe Calatrava reference 3718 is a limited-edition piece produced exclusively for the Japanese market in honour of the brand’s 150th anniversary. It is speculated that only 500 pieces were produced, and to further compound this rarity, the watch is made from stainless steel, which is hardly found within Patek Philippe’s archives.
The Calatrava was the first model released after the manufacture was bought over by Charles and Henri Stern, with the intention of breathing new life into the brand. Looking back, this original design is considered by many as the ultimate blueprint for a time-only dress watch.
Bearing all the design cues of a vintage watch, this Calatrava reference 3718 distinguishes itself through its slightly grained dial, which is an unusual off-white, eggshell colour that has a more matte tone to it rather than a silvered sheen. At 33mm, the size of the watch is in keeping with its vintage aesthetics, retaining an elegant size and nostalgic feel. The back of the watch is inset with a golden medallion that is the only acknowledgement of the anniversary, with “Patek Philippe – 1839-1989” inset around the Calatrava Cross symbol.
The piece is powered by the calibre 215PS, which was introduced in 1975. The movement also carries the Geneva Seal, which is unique in its accreditation as it focuses on the art of decorating a movement with finesse and skill, in the style of Genevan watchmaking.

This Patek Philippe Calatrava 3718A is in excellent condition throughout. The case and lugs show virtually no signs of wear. The eggshell-coloured dial, and hands are free from any signs of imperfection. The engravings and golden medallion on the caseback are crisp and well defined.
